Module 15 (Art Gallery)

I did not go to an art gallery, but I did find some self-portraits that I was interested in.
Artemisia Gentileschi
Self Portrait as the Allegory of
Painting (1638-39)
Victor Brauner
Self-Portrait with a Plucked
Eye (1931)
Buff Holtman
Self Portrait
(2008)

1. Why did you select the inspiration pieces?
I chose these three pieces, because they weren't normal self-portraits. They all have things that make them really different and interested to them, and I really liked that.
2. Why did you select the media to create your self-portrait?
Honestly, I really didn't have a chose but to use pencil because I had already packed away all my other art supplies. However, I think that if I did have another choice than I could probably use charcoal and pastels.
3. What challenges did you face in creating your self-portrait and how did you overcome them?
I am not very good at drawing faces, so I just tired my best to get it to look good. 4. How does this piece represent you?
It represents me because in the portrait I am smiling, and I am generally happy person. Also I didn't shade anything to dark and I think that also fits into being happy. 5. What elements and principles of art did you apply in this work?
I used lines, shading, and proportions. 6. Did you enjoy working on this project?
I did enjoy working on this project. Although I did get annoyed when trying to draw my face. 7. What do you think of your final artwork?
I think that it  came out okay considering I don't really draw that often.

Module 16

1. What were you expectations for this course and where they met?
I really enjoyed taking course. I thought it would be boring, but I actually found a lot of the topics very interesting.
2. Now that you've been through this course, What is art? How would you define it now compared to your initial posting?
I think that I would define art as an act of self expression, with the use of different medias.
3. Who was your favorite artist in your original posting and who is your favorite visual artist now? If there is a difference, why do you think so? If you have the same favorite artist, why do you think so?
My favorite artist in my original post was Banksy, and even though he still is my favorite I think that I have come to appreciate a number of  different artists throughout this course. I think that my favorite artist is the same because I am really interested in the messages that he addresses in his pieces and I think that the way he delivers these messages are very powerful.
4. Now that you've completed this course, how do you feel about taking an online course? Is your answer the same as it was in your first posting? How is it the same or different?
This wasn't my first online course, and this class didn't change my opinion on them.  I prefer online course than those in a classroom, and I think that students can have the same amount if not more interaction with the professor if they choose too.

Project 4

http://prezi.com/8yegb80kyghj/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy

My powerpoint wasn't working, so I eneded up using this website.

I really put a lot of thought into the theme of my project. I wanted to do something that was of importance to me. I think that every woman is beautiful in their own way, and that is only proven through the change of what beautiful is over the course of time. It took me a while to locate the different portraits that I decided I wanted to use in my presentation. Picking them I knew that I didn't want to focus on just one media that was being used. Beauty can be captured in a number of different ways, and I think I showed that in my exhibit.

Module 13 and 14

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Watching both videos I learned a number of new things. One being that lowbrow is a term used to refer to a person who is regraded as uncultivated and lacking in taste, and it was very influential during the 60's and 70's. I also learned a lot about the Tate Modern which is art museum in Berlin.
2. Do the videos relate to the creation of your Art Exhibition project? If yes, explain how. If no, explain why not.
I have not yet started my project, therefore I am not sure if it relates.
3. What is your opinion of the films? Do they add depth to understanding of the art concepts you practiced while creating your curation project?
I did like the videos from this week. They were interesting to watch. I learned a lot about a number of different topics.
